The Last Ember
Lily Berlin Dodd
In the city of Porttown, everyone knows aerimanders are a myth. Aerimanders - fire-breathing creatures more sinister than the ordinary dragon, have been extinct for centuries after the citizens chased them away. But there are rumors of an aerimander egg that might have survived...and Eva Alexander may accidentally have come into possession of what everyone is looking for.

Chryseis' Review

Hi young detectives,
there's one more mystery to be solved!
Did any of you notice the bird popping in?

3 Things About The Author
Lily Berlin Dodd
Why Dragons?
I was reading about medieval European salamander myths, and how there’s this idea that these creatures must hatch in fire, because whenever we place this log and light a fire, all these salamanders pour out of it. It turns out that they were already in the log, of course, and they just don’t like being lit on fire, so they run out of the log. But that was how that myth started. And so I was interested in creating a character that’s like a dragon but also has these roots that are a little bit more ecological or science-y.

What else I champion...
I feel grateful that I can work both as an author and as a program coordinator for WAAC.
